Akron Sail and Power Squadron Sail Class

The United States Power Squadron is a volunteer organization dedicated to improving the skills of its members.   Courses are taught by volunteer members of local Squadrons.  Akron Sail and Power Squadron offers a variety of courses, including the Sail Class.  Other class schedules can be found at its web site, www.akronpowersquadron.com.

The USPS Sail Course was developed by volunteer members of USPS.   Materials on this web site are copyrighted by USPS.

The USPS Sail Course is geared to both new sailors and sailors who want to increase their sailing knowledge and skills.

The course starts with basic sailboat designs and nomenclature, rigging, safety, and sail processes and then tackles the physical aspects of sailing forces and techniques, sail applications, marlinespike, helmsmanship and handling of more difficult sailing conditions, navigation rules, and an introduction to heavy weather sailing.

Akron's Class supplements the material with selected video material on the topics.  In addition, we show a 15 minute "cruising" video before each class to highlight some other benefits of the "sailing life".  Power boaters will enjoy these boating destinations, as well!
