AP uses GPS as the primary source of a fix. The GPS feeds directly into Chartplotters or a laptop running a digital charting program.
A chartplotting program comes with the course material. In addition, you can download US charts for free. You can purchase a GPS antenna that plugs into the USB port of your laptop for less than $50.
