This is a Blog about helping Doug Thomas take his 46' Uniflite, "PAX", Through the Welland, Oswego, and Erie Canals to Kingston, New York, on the Hudson River.
Doug is actually going to Little River, SC, near Myrtle Beach, but I can only go part way - I have to haul out our boat, "Island Girl," in October.

Tuesday, Sept 8 Catawba to Mentor
We started our journey around 0930, stopping first to top up our diesel fuel . By 1000 we were on Lake Erie. The winds were light and the lake was pretty flat - perfect for us power boaters!
Our Crew: Brian, Mary Jane, Doug, Linda, and Dick
Next stop: Mentor Lagoons Yacht Club.We didn't see too many vessels along the way.
We ran at around ten knots and made Mentor by 1700. The club was closed on Tuesday, so the crew prepared dinner and drinks, planned our next leg (Erie, PA), and kept our eye on the weather forecast.
Good Bye, West Harbor...Hello Lake Erie
Strange Algal Bloom patterns north of Cleveland - look like molecular chains. Some are nearly perfect circles!
Doug at the helm with Dick at his side - Great view from up here
Dick updating the Deck Log
Coast Guard stopping some fishermen. Maybe to do a VSC?
One of two freighters we saw. We altered course for this one, west of Mentor
PAX safely moored at Mentor Harbor Yacht Club. A great day boating!
Wednesday, Sept 9, 2015 - Mentor
We were stuck in Mentor for a day because of a stormy and windy forecast.
We hiked along Mentor lagoons to the nature trail, which goes 7 miles to Mentor Headlands beach, but decided that we had done enough hiking and were ready to return to the boat. On the way home we picked up some provisions – a six pack of Great Lakes Brewery Oliver Hazard Perry IPA!
Morning sky looks ominous...looks like we'll spend the day in port!
Hiked to Mentor Lagoons Park and Marina, and the start of the nature trail
After our outing Linda made some fantastic Eggplant Parmesan.
